A mountaineering and mountain climbing holiday needs expert planning and an experienced mountain guide. On a mountain climbing holiday you will probably find up to twelve pupils with one experienced mountain guide. On more technical mountaineering and mountain climbing routes more instructors are used per group. On harder mountain climbing climbs at high altitudes where the terrain may be crevassed and steep ice fields encountered, each small group will have an instructor. On these occasions climbers are normally roped together for safety.
